Does the Name on the Sign Really Matter?
I get this question a lot, especially from people in smaller communities: “Are you still with [insert brokerage name]? I’ve always used them.” It’s a fair question, but it’s based on a misunderstanding of how real estate actually works.
Every Agent’s License Is Held by a Broker, But That’s Just Paperwork
In Ohio, every real estate agent has to have their license held by a broker. That’s a legal requirement, not a reflection of who’s actually doing the work for you. The brokerage name on the sign is largely administrative. The agent you’re working with is the one handling your search, your negotiations, and your results.
Our Own Experience Proves the Point
Since Rene and I started in this business, we’ve been with four different brokerages. The most recent change happened in 2025, and honestly, it wasn’t a choice we made. Our previous brokerage was bought out, and if it had been up to us, we likely wouldn’t have chosen to join the company we’re with now.
But here’s the thing: none of that changed how we serve our clients. Our process, our communication, our results, all of it stayed exactly the same. The brokerage name changed. We didn’t.
What Actually Matters When Choosing an Agent
If you’re searching for an agent, especially in a smaller market where one company has been around for decades, it’s worth remembering that longevity of a brand doesn’t automatically mean better service. What matters is the individual agent’s experience, their responsiveness, and their track record of results, regardless of what name is on the sign outside their office.
Our Commitment Hasn’t Changed
Whatever brokerage we’re with, our commitment to our clients has always stayed the same. That’s what we believe actually matters, and it’s why our results have stayed consistent through every change.
